Location – The Bates Ranch is located in Plumas County, near the small community of Beckwourth, California. From Hwy 70, the ranch can be accessed by Rd A23 on the West end of the ranch or from Dyson Lane the divides the Eastern portion of the ranch. The Bates Ranch is located in the renowned Sierra Valley and a large portion of the ranch contributes to making up the headwaters of the Upper Feather River watershed.

Description – The ranch has historically summered approximately 600 to 800 cow calf pairs. Winter snowpack provides gravity irrigation water that flows throughout the ranch. The headquarters is located West of Dyson Lane and is very functional. The cattle working facilities are extensive and provide plenty of capacity to process, ship and receive all of the cattle summered on the ranch. There are multiple hay barns and a new shop as well as a new 3 bedroom 2 bath modular home.

Acreage – The Bates is made up of 4804.91 deeded acres. There are approximately 1700 acres of irrigated and sub irrigated pastures. The balance of the acreage is very strong spring and summer range feed.

Water – Water is abundant. The majority of the creeks in Sierra Valley converge just above the ranch to create the headwaters of the Middle Fork of the Feather River. The water right adjudicated to the ranch is 1686.40 acres out of the Middle Fork of the Feather River. There are multiple other minor water rights included as well. All surface water is gravity fed using diversion dams. In addition, there are also 5 solar stock water wells that disperse water to troughs throughout the ranch.

Recreation – The versatility of this property is boundless. The ranch is a key stopover on the Pacific Flyway and supports a great diversity of waterfowl, shorebirds and raptors for bird watchers and hunters alike. The river is teeming with fish and gentle enough to paddle a canoe though in the summer.

Livestock – As stated, the ranch typically summers 600 to 800 cow calf pairs from May through the beginning of November. The ranch has a 5 year grazing lease in place, details to be provided upon request.
